Petřín

Petřín

Petřín towers into 327 metres above Prague and is one of many beautiful and romantic places in Prague. Already Kosmas the chronicler mentioned Petřín and said it was very rocky and for its numerous rocky places it began to be called Petřin for the Latin word petra means rock. In the old days rocks have been broken from Petřín and used for some of Prague’s buildings.

Petřín is a place that is connected with love. The love symbol is the statue of the famous Czech poet Karel Hynek Mácha who dealt with the metaphysical form of love not only in his literary work. Many inhabitants of Prague visit Petřín on the 1st of May because the 1st of May is the day of love.

Important places that are worth visiting:

Loreta

LoretaLoreta (more specifically Church of the Nativity) is a historic place of pilgrimage and every tourist heading to the Prague Castle should not miss it. It is located on the Prague Loreta Square and it is a beautiful baroque building that has a broad front with a clock tower, where the unique Loretan bells sound with their carillon every hour.

Charles bridge and Kampa

The Charles Bridge has been built in the 10th century and therefore it is the oldest bridge over the Vltava River in Prague and the second oldest bridge in the Czech Republic, the oldest bridge is rock bridge in Písek. Peter Parler can be signed as the genius builder of this bridge. He has also been a part of the construction of the St. Vitus Cathedral.

St. Vitus Cathedral

Not a lot of people know this but the real name of the church commonly known as St. Vitus' Cathedral is St. Vitus, Wenceslaw and Adalbert Cathedral. Until 1997 the Cathedral was consecrated only to St. Vitus and that is why it is commonly known only as Church or Cathedral of St. Vitus.

Prague Airport - 12 million passengers checked

Prague Airport - 12 million passengers checked

Almost 12 million passengers checked out at the Prague airport last year, which means there has been a 2% rise from the year before. Most passengers have been checked out in the year 2006 and 2011 is the second following. The rising trend is surely substantiated by the rising amount of people who use low-budget lines such as SmartWings, Wizzair or EasyJet.
